Nail of the Day: Walking in Spiderwebs

Happy Halloween everyone! :D

Today's nail of the day is obviously Halloween inspired. I just had to! For this look I used Maybelline Color Show "Orange Fix" for the base. On my ring finger I drew a spiderweb using the Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen in black - it's surprisingly not as hard as it looks! The nail art pen helps though, it's very precise. Then to finish it off I put on a coat of Essie Luxeffects "Shine of the Times". This has definitely become my favourite top-coat effect. It's so pretty! It's the only one of the luxeffects polishes I own though, I need to get my hands on some of the others.

Have you guys done Halloween inspired nails this year?

Product Review: Maybelline Great Lash Mascara

I was in the market for a new waterproof mascara a while back. I immediately went to the Maybelline section of the make-up aisle at Shoppers Drug Mart to see what was on sale. Maybelline mascaras have definitely become my favourite, and whatever, I'm cheap lol. Anyway, I saw that Great Lash was on sale. I know that this is a lot of people's favourite ever mascara, and I even used to use it when I was a lot younger, so I got it.

I bought the waterproof one in the colour "Very Black". It was about $6 on sale.

The first time I opened this mascara, I was immediately surprised by the size of the brush. It's so small! But I guess I'm used to very big mascara brushes, often using mascaras such as Volum'Express Falsies & The Collosal by Maybelline, LashBlast by CoverGirl, and Avon's SuperSHOCK.

At first I thought it would take a lot more work to coat all the lashes because of the small size of the brush. But I actually quite like the size - it makes it very easy to coat all your lashes, including the ones in the inner corner of the eyes, and it definitely makes lower lashes easier to coat as well.

This is a great everyday mascara, and I definitely think I'm going to keep one on hand all the time from now on.

Outfit of the Day: 80s Barbie

Barbie Sweater: Forever 21; Shorts: Stitches; Bow: Forever 21; Socks: Ardene; Tights: Winners

This weekend, we got to dress up for Halloween at work. I dressed up as 80s Barbie. Funny thing about this costume - I already owned all the pieces to make it. And possibly a sad thing, I've worn a VERY similar outfit on a regular day before, just without the giant bow and a slightly toned down pair of tights, haha. Plus I had to make my hair big to be "80's" Barbie. Anyway, it was a hit - everyone knew who I was. :)

Here's a close-up for a better view of my make-up - mostly pink as well, of course!

Are any of you dressing up for Halloween this year? What is your costume?

Nail of the Day: Barbie Pink

So it's Halloween weekend, and I'm dressing up as 80s Barbie for work today. I obviously needed to wear a bright pink nail polish to complete the look. This is China Glaze "Pink Voltage" with "Nova" sparkle top coat on the ring finger. This is the first time I've worn this colour and holy crap, it's amazing! Probably my new favourite nail polish. It's a super bright neon pink with a hint of blue shimmer, but it dries slightly matte. I can't even describe how incredible that looks in real life. If you like bright pink polishes, I definitely recommend this one. It's GORGEOUS.

Also, an outfit of the day with my Barbie costume will be coming soon! Check back for that. :)

Product Review: TimeBalm Vanilla Oil Absorbing Face Moisturizer

Even though I know I'm supposed to wear moisturizer on my face, I've always been weary about it. I have combination/oily skin, and in the past, even the oil-free ones that I've tried make me all shiny. However, I've been getting some gross dry patches lately, and knew I needed to find a good moisturizer. I came across this gem, TimeBalm Vanilla Oil Absorbing Face Moisturizer for normal to combination skin.

This stuff lives up to its promise to absorb oil on the face - no shine! It moisturizes without leaving my face greasy and it doesn't make me break out.

A little product goes a long way, too, so this little bottle will last a long time. I usually use 2 pumps of the stuff for my whole face, and it lasts all day.

I bought this off eBeauty.ca for $21, which I think is really reasonable for a good moisturizer. If you're looking for a good moisturizer that eliminates shine, I definitely recommend this!

Nail of the Day: Dark Duochrome

Essence Color & Go nail polishes are ridiculously inexpensive - under $2! I only have this colour - Chic Reloaded - but so far I'm really impressed. For such a cheap price, it goes on  really nicely, and dries quickly. You get a nice, opaque colour in 2 coats, as well. I love this colour because it's really neat. At first glance it just looks like a shiny dark grey, but in different lights it has green and purple tones to it. So cool! I think it's a great colour for this time of year.

I think I'm definitely going to have to check out some more Essence polishes, and maybe some of their other products as well. :)

Empty: Softsoap Body Butter - Strawberry Scrub

I recently emptied this body wash/scrub, and am kind of sad to see it go. It was the perfect body wash for summer, because it's simultaneously a body scrub - no need to use a wash AND a scrub for nice smooth legs!

This product contains tiny beads to exfoliate the skin while you wash, but they're not abrasive or harsh like some scrubs. The soap is also incredibly creamy and feels so nice on the skin. Plus, it smells like strawberries. YUM.

I'm not going to repurchase this product right away, because there are some other washes and scrubs that I want to use up and try, but I might buy it again next summer. :)

Do you like the idea of a body wash and scrub in one, or do you prefer to keep them seperated?

Product Review: Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain - Sweetheart

I was so excited when I finally got my hands on one of Revlon's Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain pencils. I love the idea of a lip stain in pencil form. The colour I got is Sweetheart - a gorgeous bright fuchsia pink.

I have not been disappointing by this product. Being in the form of a pencil, it is super easy to apply. It's also moisturizing, not drying, as the term "balm" would suggest. And it actually does stain the lips for a good amount of hours! The colour even lasts through a drink or two, though I usually have to reapply after eating a full meal.

Another thing I like about this product is that there's no need to sharpen it - the pencil part is retractable, and you just have to twist the bottom to push more product up.

One last thing I want to mention - a very sort of random thing - is the smell. These pencils smell amazing. It's not your typical weird lipstick smell. They smell sort of minty! Every time I wear this, I notice it, and it's very pleasant!

Anyway, I highly recommend these balm stains if you like lip stains or lip products in general. They come in a pretty good range of colours, and I'm sure you could find one that suits you well. :)

Outfit of the Day: Casual Denim

Denim Shirt & Yellow Tank Top: Forever 21

It is getting cold out! It feels like it went from fall to winter overnight - definitely too early in the season for that. One thing I do love about cold weather, though, is wearing super fuzzy warm leggings. They have definitely replaced jeans in a lot of my outfits. :) I kind of love the reversal of materials in this particular outfit - wearing sweater material on my legs, and denim on top. Super casual and cute.

Hope you all are staying warm!

Nail of the Day: Spanish Moss Crackle

I haven't done a manicure with my Sally Hansen "Ink Splatter" crackle polish in quite a while. I love the way this turned out, with Revlon "Spanish Moss", a khaki green underneath. This is probably the best my black crackle top coat has ever turned out, too. Sometimes it's tricky!

I used Nailene "Acrylic Strength Base & Top Coat" both underneath and on top this manicure, and it has lasted a week+. Incredibly impressive for my nails, they usually chip within a couple of days.

What do you think of crackle polish? Do you like the look of it, or are you over it now?

Also; HAPPY CANADIAN THANKSGIVING! Enjoy your turkey coma - I know I will. ;)

Fall Drug Store Haul

So, I've pretty much been on a spending ban for most of the summer. While I'm still trying to control my spending on things that I don't need, there were a few things I picked up at the drug store the other day.

1. St. Ives Apricot Scrub; $4.99 - St. Ives is one of my favourite brands for face products! This scrub is a bit abrasive, but it works so well.

2. CoverGirl TruBlend Powder in Translucent Light; $9.74 - This is my all-time favourite powder. I've been using it since I was in high school. However, now that it's fall, I needed to switch from Translucent Medium to Translucent Light.

3. Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse in Nude; $6.99 - I love this foundation so much. It works well on oily skin and the mousse formula feels so cool to apply. Also had to switch to a lighter shade for fall, haha.

4. Revlon Kissable Balm Stain in Sweetheart; $8.99 - I've been wanting to try these for so long! They were on sale so I finally gave in and bought one. Trust me, they do not disappoint. I've recently bought the shade Honey as well. I want all of them!

5. Listerine Whitening Pre-Rinse Treatment; $5.99 - This stuff definitely helps with whitening your teeth,

6. Crest 3D White Advanced Vivid Enamel Renewal Toothpaste; $3.99 - Because toothpaste is important. :P

Product Review: NYC Smooch Proof 16H Lip Stain

If you've been reading my blog for a while, you know that I'm a sucker for lip stains. I just want to try EVERY KIND of lip stain that exists, both expensive and cheap! Here is one of the cheaper versions of a lip stain.

These are the NYC Smooch Proof 16H Lip Stains in the colours Champagne Stain and Endless Spice. NYC is one of the more inexpensive make-up brands around, but their products have definitely improved recently, though their prices have remained great. I got these for about $4 each at Wal-Mart.

The tubes these stains come in have a felt tip end for a marker-look, and all you have to do to apply the colour is draw it on the lips. It makes for super easy, mess-free application.

Champagne Stain

Endless Spice
I am super impressed by the colour payoff of these products. They apply incredibly smoothly. One coat is somewhat transparent, if you like that look, but the colour is definitely buildable. I can't say these last 16 hours, though. The colour starts to come off after eating/drinking. However, for the price of these products, I think they are definitely good quality and last nicely otherwise.

Haul: Sephora, B&BW, Forever 21

I went shopping at Somerset Mall in Michigan last weekend. I've been on a spending ban for about 2 months, and was quite nervous that I'd just get so excited and blow all my money! Haha, but I found some good deals and didn't end up spending too much. :)

First off, from Sephora I got Urban Decay's De-Slick Oil Control Spray ($29). I love this stuff so much, it does such a great job of controlling oil and shine - a definite must if you have oily skin like I do. I also got Benefit's Erase Paste in Fair ($26) because I've been looking for a good concealer and I've heard some great things about this one. I wanted so much more from Sephora, but I couldn't justify spending my money on a lot of it when I still had more stores to go to. :P

Bath & Body Works had hand soaps on for 4 for $15, and 3-wick candles 2 for $20. I had to take advantage of these sales, plus I can't pass up the fall scents! The hand soaps I got were Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin, Orchard Walk, Vanilla Buttercream, and the classic Sweet Pea. I love Orchard Walk - it smells like fresh picked apples - and Vanilla Buttercream makes my mouth water, it smells so yummy! I'm disappointing by Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin though, it hardly has a scent to it at all.  For candles I got Leaves and Pumpkin Cupcake. They both smell amazing, I've already burned half-way through both of them! I'm going to have to go back before the season is over to get some more.

Lastly, from Forever 21 I got 2 skinny belts (one black, one pink, $2.50 each), a denim shirt ($19.80), and another pair of black leggings ($5.80). Such great deals. I can never not buy something from Forever 21, haha. :)
