Nail of the Day: Violet Skies

Here's another multi-coloured manicure that I did! I really love this one. The colours are some of my favourites, and I think they work so well together! The colours I used are Essie "Merino Cool", Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear "Lacey Lilac", and Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear "Strobe Light" for the sparkles on the ring finger. On my opposite hand, I did the exact opposite - Merino Cool on my thumb and middle fingers, and Lacey Lilac on my index and pinky finger. I'm not quite ready to transition into darker colours for fall yet, but I feel like this mixing of brighter colours and dark colours in the same manicure is a great way to transition!

Product Review: Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat

First thing that I want to say is that it's definitely worth it to spend a bit of extra money for a really good top coat. As you all probably realize, I do my nails a LOT. A good top coat is definitely a must. I got the Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat in my last nail polish haul, and have been using it ever since. It is the most amazing top coat I've ever tried! As the name suggests, it dries fast. When I say fast, I mean super fast, like within a minute - even if you apply it over still-sticky nail polish. I find this to be so important, because I always end up messing up my nails if they don't dry quickly enough - I have stuff to do with my hands! Haha. It also thoroughly hardens every layer of polish, which helps prevent chipping. Another plus is the size of the bottle - it's quite a bit bigger than your normal nail polish bottle, which means it contains more product. I've already used a lot of this, but it hardly looks like I've used any. I'm excited that this is going to last me a long time!

The only downside I've come across with this top coat is the smell. As soon as you open the bottle, there is quite a strong smell that lingers until your nails dry (which luckily, isn't long, because like I said, this polish dries SUPER fast). A lot of nail polishes these days don't contain the harmful chemicals that cause this sort of smell. It was definitely a throwback to the days when I'd use my mom's nail polishes as a kid - they all smelled like this. So it makes me think that there's something in this polish that isn't quite healthy. Just make sure not to inhale too much of it!

This top coat goes for $11 on NailPolishCanada.com. Like I said, it's a little bit pricey, but totally worth it. I really want to try some of the other Seche products - I am super impressed thus far!

What is your favourite top coat?

Nail of the Day: Ombre Tiger

These were actually my nails last week but I was very proud of them so I still wanted to share them. :) Not only did I manage to create a cool tiger look, but I also got the ombre thing down! For this manicure I used Essie "Watermelon", Essie "Tart Deco", and Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear "Coral Reef" to create the ombre effect (with the help of a make-up sponge). Then I used my Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen in Black to create the black lines - the tiger print! I need to get some more colours of the nail art pen, I think - the possibilities are really endless!

Product Review: Maybelline Fit Me Blush

I've been using this blush for a while now, and although it's definitely not my favourite, it's not a complete write-off either.

This is the Maybelline Fit Me Blush in Medium Nude. It's sort of a mauve/dusty pink shimmer. It's a gorgeous colour in the package. I like how compact the packaging is - there is just enough room for the product and a mini blush brush.

Speaking of the brush, I'm usually not a big fan of brushes that come with products. However, I've actually used this one a couple of times and it's not bad! It applies the product quite nicely.

On the skin, this blush packs more shimmer than pigment. It does come out slightly bronzy-pink, but the shimmer definitely stands out the most. This product could definitely be used as a highlighter. For lighter skin tones, I think it could also work as a bronzer if applied sparingly. Although, it also looks nice on the cheeks as a blush for adding just a hint of colour. This is how I've mostly been using it.

When I first started using this blush, I was a little bit disappointed with it, because it wasn't as pigmented as I expected it to be. But after using it a few times, I actually quite like its subtlety. It adds just a bit of natural looking colour to the cheeks, which is quite nice.

How would you wear this colour?

Revlon Lip Butter - Tutti Frutti

I've already done a review on the Revlon Lip Butters, which you can find here. However, I got a new shade a while back and I love it so much that I figured I would do a mini review and a swatch post. :)

The shade I got is Tutti Frutti. It's a bright coral-y orange and I love it so much! Usually I don't gravitate towards orange shades, but it's just so vibrant and perfect for summer that it attracted my attention immediately and I had to buy it.

I love the way this lip butter looks on my lips. Like the other Lip Butters, it goes on slightly more sheer than a regular lipstick, but leaves a gorgeous sheen of colour. As you can see, it's not as scarily bright on the lips as it looks in the tube. It's almost a natural-but-better lip colour.

Revlon Lip Butters are great, especially for the summer when I don't like looking like I'm wearing too much make-up. I definitely recommend them. They're usually a pretty great price as well, which is a bonus!

Nail of the Day: Just Spotted the Lizard

I was so excited when my OPI "Just Spotted the Lizard" from the Spider-Man collection arrived in the mail last week. I am sad to say that I don't love it as much as I thought it would! I'm not saying that it's not still a really cool colour - it's really cool how it's sort of a duo-chrome green and gold. However, in most lights it's a lot more gold than green, whereas I thought it would be more green than gold. Anyway, even though it's not exactly what I was expecting, I still like it and will still probably use it a lot - it's definitely different than any other nail polish I own. I also added a little bit of nail art here with a triangle of Quo by Orly "Filthy Rich" on my ring fingers. This colour is actually a really glittery gold, but the colours from "Just Spotted the Lizard" reflect off of it and it looks more green or gold depending on the lighting, as well.

Outfit of the Day: Country Chic

I wore this outfit last night to a bar downtown called Papa Cheney's, which is more of a casual sit-down and eat/drink type of place. I felt like this outfit was appropriate, and I was super excited to finally get to wear this bustier top - it's so cute!
