Product Review: Revlon Grow Luscious Plumping Mascara

I bought this mascara a while back, mostly on impulse, because it was on sale and came with a free liquid eye-liner. I am a sucker for deals, sometimes to a fault.

The product is Revlon's Grow Luscious Plumping Mascara, which claims to "help lashes grow stronger while visibly adding length and volume". Maybe it's because I haven't used it often enough to notice any results, or maybe it's just because I have pretty decent natural eyelashes to begin with, but I really haven't noticed any difference in the strength or length of my lashes.

The brush on this mascara wand is a really big one - it's super long and thick, tapering off a bit towards the end. Usually I'm a big fan of super-sized mascara brushes, but I found this one quite hard to work with. It took some practice to keep from getting any product on the skin around my eyes. For this aspect alone, this definitely isn't a mascara for beginners to start out with. The bristles are also spaced pretty far apart.

Although this product claims to add length and volume, I feel that it does a lot more in the length department. While it does add average volume, it's nothing overly noticeable.

The brush does do a semi-decent job of separating the lashes, although, again, it does take a bit of work to keep any clumping from happening.

Grow Luscious Plumping Mascara comes in 4 shades - Black, Blackest Black, Blackened Brown, and Black Shimmer. I have it in Black, because the 3 different shades of black seemed a bit repetitive to me. I don't know if there actually is much of a difference between the 3 black shades, but I doubt it would be hugely noticeable.

In all, this mascara is nothing special. There are much easier mascaras to apply, with better results. Maybe if I'd used it more consistently I would notice a difference in the health of my natural lashes, but I guess I will never know, because I will not be repurchasing.

Hair Saver - The High Messy Bun

This is a hair post. It isn't a tutorial, because I haven't taken pictures of the process of actually doing it, lol, but I probably could do that if any of you wanted me to. It's just basically an "I'm excited because I've found a new way to wear my hair when it looks to dirty/greasy to wear down", haha, and I love the way it looks so much! It's also good for when my hair just won't co-operate because it's meant to look messy.

Nail of the Day: Green with Envy

It's been a few days since I've posted anything! Sorry about that everyone ... I've been a bit hectic with work and such lately. Anywho, I'm back with a quick nail of the day for you.

I'm wearing Revlon ColorStay "Spanish Moss" with Essie Luxeffects "Shine of the Times" on top. I love these colours together, it creates a really cool effect. This is the first Revlon ColorStay polish I've tried and I was really impressed with it. The brush is slightly large but it's a nice shape and allows you to easily apply the polish to your nails. I also almost felt like I only needed one coat, but I went for 2 just for good measure. This is also the first time I tried an Essie Luxeffects polish, and I love love love it so much. "Shine of the Times" is a gold flakey shimmer that just looks gorgeous. You can see the effect better in the picture below:

I can't wait to try this top-coat effect polish over lots of different colours! Yay fun. Haha. Last but not least, I used my new Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat, and I am so impressed with it. Full review on it soon! :)

What colours have you been loving on your nails lately?

Ear Chains

I recently got this ear chain from Oasap and I just love it so much! I love how it adds a little bit of edge to a look without being over the top.

Mini Make-up/Nail Polish Haul

Yes. I buy too many things. This is a fact and has been for a very long time. Anyway, I've recently found myself in possession of more beauty things, again, and I figured I would share with you what I got. :P

First, here are a few things I bought from Shoppers Drug Mart:

Revlon ColorStay Longwear Nail Enamel in Spanish Moss - I've been hearing very good things about these nail polishes and felt like I needed to try some out. They were on sale, so I picked this one up. I really like the colour! I will let you know how it is when I try it.

Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm in Cherry Me - I am in love with these lip balms. This is my fourth one and it's definitely a new favourite. The colour that shows on the lips is a very sheer red that is perfect.

Maybelline the Mega Plush Volum'Express Mascara - Apparently I am also in love with Maybelline mascaras. Lately they are the only ones I've been buying! I just had to try this one, since it's pretty new. I haven't tried it yet but I will do a review when I do. :)

Second, I put in an order from Nail Polish Canada, and these are the polishes I will be getting.

Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat - the website sent me a 40% off coupon for this, which is the main reason I made an order in the first place, haha. Such a sucker for deals. Anyway, it's supposed to be a really good top coat and I'm always up for trying out new top coats!

OPI Just Spotted the Lizard - This is from the Spider-Man collection, and I've been dying to have it since I first saw it released.

Essie Shine of the Times - This is from Essie's Luxeffects Topcoat Effects collection, and I've seen so many pretty nail looks done with it. I felt like it was time to get it.

That's all for today! Although I warn you now, there may be a clothing and accessory haul sometime in the not-too-distant-future, since I have a full shopping cart at the Forever 21 website right now... oopsie. Haha.

Beauty Wishlist - July

I've compiled a bit of a wishlist of products I would love to get my hands on sometime in the near future. Here are those items:

1. YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain - I know I made a post about wanting this months ago, but I still haven't gotten my hands on it yet! So it's definitely at the top of my wishlist.

2. Tresemme Split Remedy products - I've got horrible split ends. I would love to try all or any of these products, but especially the Split End Sealing Serum.

3. Clinique Chubby Stick - I love the idea of these products! So far I haven't been able to find them here but I'm searching.

4. Urban Decay Naked Palette - It's pretty much a sin that I don't already own this palette, right? Need to get my hands on it ASAP.

5. Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain - I know this is probably a knock-off of the chubby sticks, but I'd love to try both and compare. Plus I love the Revlon Just Bitten Lip Stain + Balm.

6. OPI "Nothin' Mousie 'Bout it" - Pink hearts, glitter, and Minnie mouse - what the heck more could I want in a nail polish?! I actually was about to order this today, but it was out of stock, wah. :(

7. Benefit Erase Paste - I've heard phenomenal things about this concealer, and I really just need a better product to cover up my dark under-eye circles.

What's on your beauty wishlist this month?

My Beauty Profile

Amanda from Oops, I'm in Germany came up with the idea to do a beauty profile - basically a post explaining personal skin-type and such. This is a great idea, especially for beauty bloggers, because everyone has different skin/hair/etc., and just because one person has a good/bad experience with a product doesn't mean everyone will! Anyway, Amanda tagged me to do this post & I figured it would be a great idea. Here goes:

Name: Kristy
Age: 24
Country: Canada

Skin Type: Combination to oily - more on the oily side.
Skin Tone: Fair to medium. I tan very easily. I have neutral undertones.

Eyelids: I have a prominent crease.
Eyelashes: Long and naturally curled, but blonde, so mascara is essential. They're also longer than they are thick so I like to wear thickening mascara opposed to lengthening.

Hair Color: Blonde.
Length: Medium.
Thickness: Fine.
Style: Naturally wavy; long layers with side-bangs.

I tag Tawny from BeautyByT and Melanie Clare from Beauty with Melanie Clare to do a beauty profile! I also tag anyone else who wants to do one, because it seems like such a good idea to me. :)

Nail of the Day: Strawberry Fingers

I've got another nail art Nail of the Day for you today! I think doing fun things on your nails can just be so much fun when you have the time to experiment. Anyway, I painted my nails like little strawberries! I used OPI "Animal-istic" as the red base, Rimmel 60 Seconds in "Camouflage" for the green 'leaves', and Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in "Yellow Kitty" for the yellow dots, which I applied with a toothpick.

Have you tried out any nail art recently? Pinterest is great for inspiration!

Outfit of the Day: Summer Lace

This is what I wore yesterday to a family visit for my grandma's 91st birthday. I like this top a lot because it's 3/4-length sleeved, which is a nice change from all the t-shirts and tank tops I've been wearing, and yet it's not too much to wear in the heat & humidity because it's all lace and breathable. Yay!

Nail of the Day: Pink Leopard

So this was my first attempt at doing leopard print nail art. I think it turned out super well, & I am so proud of myself, haha. It actually surprisingly wasn't very hard to do! I now wish I had taken pictures of every step to show you all how easy it actually was, but unfortunately I didn't, so you only get to see the final product. I used OPI "Dusk Over Cairo" as my base - it's a really pretty shimmery, rose pink. After two coats of that, I used Nubar "Orange Cream" to make little dots - 2 or 3 on each nail. After that all dried, I used my new Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen in Black to draw on the leopard print. This was a little tricky at first, because the stuff was not like normal nail polish, and it would smudge really easily if I wasn't careful. Once I got the hang of it, it was really easy to use. The tip is nice and fine too, so it was easy to make lines as thick or thin as I wanted. I used a coat of Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Hardener as a top coat to seal it all in. And ta-da! Beautiful pink leopard print nails! I can't wait to try different colour combinations with this pattern, as well as different types of nail art.

Product Review: Revlon Just Bitten Lipstain + Balm

Alright. I just bought this lipstain the other day, and so far I've only worn it once. But I am already IN LOVE with this product.

I bought the Revlon Just Bitten Lipstain + Balm in the colour flame. The tube looks like it's going to be a bright orangey-red, but on the lips it comes out a lot more pink, which is a-ok with me. I actually love the colour that it makes my lips! On one end is your typical lipstain marker-like applicator, which makes application super easy. On the other end is a balm, which is nice because lipstains tend to dry out the lips quite a lot. If you use the balm, it definitely helps to keep this from happening.

As far as staying-power goes, I am seriously blown away by how long this lasts on the lips. I wore this all day and it literally did not budge. I ate, I drank, I talked a whole bunch, and my lips were still pink hours later. I've tried a lot of lipstains, but none of them have ever stayed on this well. Seriously, seriously impressed. If you're looking for colour that stays put, I definitely recommend this product! I know that I'm going to be going out and buying a whole bunch more colours. :)

Nail of the Day: Spacey

This was my first attempt at doing ombre nails. Alright, so it doesn't looks ombre at all - I guess if I had used one more colour it would have looked more ombre. And a better sponge, probably. I really like how this turned out anyway! The colour combinations make me think of the Jetsons or some other old-school idea of space-age people wearing all metallics, haha. The colours I used are China Glaze "Hook and Line" from the Hunger Games collection, and OPI "My Chihuahua Bites" (I believe - the sticker seems to have fallen off). Also - check out my nails! They're growing! :D

July Drug Store Haul

I went to Shoppers Drug Mart the other day, and once again, I spent more money than I intended to. But it's all good, because I got some things that I've been needing/wanting! Yay. :P Anyway, here is what I got.

1. Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen in Black - I kind of wanted to buy all of the colours so that I could do loads of fun things to my nails, but I settled for black for now. It's a good start. :P

2. Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Instant Nail Hardener - This is my favourite base coat, and I often use it as a top coat as well. It really works to build up strength in my normally soft nails. This is my second bottle, yay for re-purchases!

3. Revlon Lip Butter in Tutti Frutti - Because I felt like I needed this colour in my life. It's an amazing peachy-orange.

4. Revlon Just Bitten Lipstain + Balm in Flame - I love a good lipstain, and I've heard good things about these ones, so I really wanted to try one out. I wanted to try the Kissable Balm Stain even more, but it seems we haven't gotten them here yet. Anyway, there will be a review coming on this product. :)

5. Satin Care Dry Skin Shave Gel - I know I hauled shave gel in my last drug store haul, but what can I say? I need to shave a lot in the summer, lol.

6. Balea 3 in 1 Cleansing Cloths - These are supposed to be cleansing, toning, and remove eye make-up. Anyway, I just needed some new face cloths, and these were cheap.

My Ring Collection

I've recently discovered that I really enjoy wearing rings! As such, I've started to acquire a bit of a ring collection. I thought I'd show you what I have. :)

This is how my rings are currently stored. Not the most organized of things, but since my collection isn't huge (yet), it works for now. My earrings are a different story, ha.

Lusting After: Denim Vests

I've recently come to the realization that I am lacking a denim vest, and that I want (need) at least one! Vests are such versatile pieces that can dress up or down loads of outfits, depending on the vest. I've never been much for vests... I only own one, and it's a plaid pink and black thing that doesn't go with very much. However, I've been seeing vests more and more, styled in so many different ways, and I feel like I definitely feel like a denim vest would add a lot to my wardrobe! Here are a few that I've got my eye on.

The cut on this one is kind of unique, and I really like the wash.
