Product Review: Vaseline Intensive Rescue Moisture Locking Body Butter

This probably looks like the most boring product to review ever. But I swear to god, it is amazing - one of the best, if not the best, body products I've ever used in my life.

I got this body butter in a gift basket that I won at a stag & doe about a year ago. I put it away in a cupboard and figured I would use it when I ran out of whatever lotion/cream/body butters I was using at the time. Well, it takes a LONG time to get through those types of products, especially when you already have so many in the first place.

Anyway, it didn't take until I ran out of those things, otherwise I still wouldn't have discovered the amazing-ness of this product. I went to Cuba on reading week and got really badly burned. When I got home, I figured I needed to start an intense moisturizing routine in order to heal my skin. Intensive Rescue Moisture Locking Body Butter sounded perfect.

And oh my goodness. This was love at first touch.

This product is the creamiest, most luxurious feeling body butter I've ever used in my life. I could run my hands through it forever, because it just feels so silky and amazing. It is intensely moisturizing, as it claims to be, but it doesn't leave an oily residue like some moisturizers do, which is an amazing benefit. Every time I use this in the morning, my skin still feels nourished and smooth by the time I get undressed at night. It is truly long-lasting. My skin is in better condition overall since I've been using it.

Above you can see the ingredients, and that it is unfragranced. Although unfragranced, I wouldn't say it's completely unscented. There is a bit of a light smell that accompanies this product, but the only word I have to describe it is 'clean'. I don't think it would bother anyone with a sensitivity to fragrances.

All-in-all, I definitely reccomend this product to anyone of any age, because who couldn't use something so nice for the skin?

Birthday Haul

So, my 24th birthday was on Friday, like I mentioned. I had a great day! I spent the afternoon at my parents' house by the pool with some drinks, pizza, and cake, and at night I had a big group go to Boston Pizza to celebrate! So many birthday hugs, it was awesome, heh.

Anyway, I also mentioned that I would do a birthday haul! I didn't receive anything overly exciting but I did get some nice clothes & things so here they are. :)

Nail of the Day: Under the Boardwalk

I've painted my nails with China Glaze "Under the Boardwalk" from their neon collection. This is one of the polishes I purchased in my last haul. I am really impressed with this colour! It's has a really 'jelly'-like colour pay-off, so you could get away with one coat if you were pressed for time and it wouldn't look like you forgot to finish your nails. I used 2 coats, however, and the picture shows how that turned out. You could add another coat for an even more opaque look, but I personally love the way it turned out. I love the colour of this polish. It's so bright and so much fun!

I finished off my nails with a little orangy-yellow design on my ring finger. To do this I used a nail stencil and Nubar "Orange Cream". I like how it adds a little bit of something to the finished look. :)

From what I can tell of the Nubar polish, it's very good. However, I used so little of it that it's hard to give a proper review of it. I will talk about it more when I actually paint at least one full nail with it. I'm thinking it might be a great toe colour for the summer!

Product Review: The Falsies Volum Express mascara

I recently bought Maybelline New York's The Falsies Volum Express waterproof mascara in Black Drama. I needed a new waterproof mascara, and I usually go for something volumizing, which I prefer over lengthening mascaras. Also, I had previously heard a lot of good things about The Falsies, and decided I would try it out.

At first glance at the brush, I have to admit that I was scared. The texture and shape of the bristles looked to me like they would cause a big, clumpy mess of my eyelashes. But when I actually applied it, I was pleasantly surprised! It did a really good job of separating my lashes and it wasn't clumpy at all.

The above pictures show one coat, which as you can see, is not overwhelmingly voluminous. Which is really nice if you're not going for something super dramatic, like a daytime look. But the great thing is that it's definitely buildable. The more coats you apply, the bigger and more dramatic your eyelashes will look.

All in all, I am super impressed with this mascara. I love how you can use it in the daytime and add a little bit more for a more dramatic night-time look. I also love the way it applies - super easy application! The formula is also great - slightly on the wet side but not overly. It doesn't get all over my lower lid if I accidentally blink too soon after applying it, which is a huge pet peeve I have with wet mascaras. If you haven't tried this mascara yet, I think you should! It's really inexpensive too. I got mine on sale for $6 but the normal price is only around $8 - $10, depending on where you buy it.

Nail Polish Haul

Nail polish has possibly become the one thing that I can not pass up buying. Almost every time I go to the drug store, or to a department store, I come home with at least one. NailPolishCanada.com does not make this addiction of mine any better! Especially when they send me e-mails about sales. That's how I ended up with this batch. Plus free shipping over $29... why not, right? Ha. Oy. This is not a sponsered post, by the way, but I do think that the website is great, and if you live in Canada and are a nail polish junkie like me, you should check it out!

Anyway, on to the haul.

China Glaze: "Hook and Line" ($7.75 $4.75); "Under the Boardwalk" ($7.75)

My first experience with China Glaze was with the Hunger Games collection & I found that I love this brand of polishes so much! They are easy to apply and are the colour they're supposed to be with relatively few coats. So when I saw "Hook and Line" on sale, which is also from the Hunger Games collection, I had to get it. "Under the Boardwalk" is from the Summer Neons collection, which is a gorgeous collection, and I so badly wanted to buy all of them!  But since they weren't on sale, I settled for this bright purple.

Zoya: "Uli" ($8.75 $6.80); "Meadow" ($8.75 $6.80)

I have never tried any nail polish by Zoya before, so I figured that the perfect time to try them out would be while they're on sale. I love the way these two colours shimmer in the bottles, and I hope the result on my nails is similar. If I like them, $8.75 a piece really isn't too bad for a good quality nail polish!

Nubar: "Orange Cream" ($8.75 $6.50); OPI: "Dusk Over Cairo" ($10.50 $8.50)

Nubar is another brand I've never tried before, simply because I never seem to have come across it! But there it was on sale and this is a colour that I don't have anything even similar to, so I thought I'd try it out. Again, if it's a good polish, the full price of $8.75 really isn't bad for a nail polish. It's nice to try things out when they're on sale though. :) And of course, I couldn't not buy an OPI polish when they're being offered! I got this gorgeous dark dusty rose colour. Always a bonus when they're on sale. I sometimes have a hard price paying full price for OPI because they are quite expensive, and even though the formula is usually great, I've come across a few exceptions.

Anyway. LOVE! Can't wait to try these all out!

Nail of the Day: Pastels

I did another multi-coloured manicure on myself recently. This time I used pastel yellow and pink. I think these colours compliment each other really well, and they seem perfect for spring.

Right hand:

Left hand:

The colours I used are Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure "Yellow Kitty" and Quo by Orly "Cotton Candy". I love this yellow so much but it is SUCH A PAIN to apply. It goes on streaky and takes so many coats to come even close to being opaque. I heard using a white coat under pastel colours can help make them opaque with fewer coats, so I will have to try that out next time for sure. Also I am in love with this pink. Even though it reminds me of pepto bismol, lol.

Outfit of the Day: Summer Brights

Summer seems to have finally come! I have whole-heartedly embraced it by dressing in light, bright, summery clothes.

Yellow Tank & Purple Bracelet: Ardene; Black Tank & Pearl Bracelet: Forever 21; Shorts: Stitches; Black Bracelet: super old, found it with some old things.

I didn't take a picture of my shoes, but I just wore a pair of flip flops.

The tank top is actually neon yellow, you can't really tell from this picture. I'm not usually a big fan of yellow but I'm loving the neon colours this season, and yellow is one of the brightest colours there is! I'm also really loving the look of multiple stacked bracelets, and have been having a lot of fun playing with different combinations.

And here is a picture of my face, since my face is mostly cut off in the picture above.

I kept my make-up simple since I'd be spending a lot of time outside - didn't want a melty looking face!

Drug Store Haul

I went to Shoppers Drug Mart the other day, and decided I might as well show you all what I got! I always leave Shoppers having spent way more than I intended to - I just can never pass up buying some kind of make-up or beauty product. Thank goodness for all the Optimum points I rack up though - at least I save some money in the end!

1. Satin Care Sensitive Skin shave gel w/ aloe vera - because summer has come and I need to shave my legs way more often now, heh.
2. Nair Hair Removal Cream for sensitive skin - with Camellia Oil & Protective Ylang Ylang Extract. I like to use Nair on my arms instead of shaving them, because it lasts a bit longer, and also because the hair doesn't grow back as coarse as it does with shaving.
3. Maybelline New York The Falsies Volum Express Waterproof Mascara in Black Drama. Review coming soon.
4.Maybelline New York Unstoppable waterproof eyeliner in Onyx. Review coming soon.
5. Secret Fresh Effects Antiperspirant/Deodorant in Fresh Water Orchid Scent.
6. Garnier Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfector B.B. Cream in Light/Medium. I wanted to try a B.B. cream so badly, and I love Garnier - also it was on sale + I had a coupon lol. So far so good. Full review coming when I've used it a little more.
7. Clearasil Daily Clear Daily Cleansing Pads.

I got everything on sale too, except for the eyeliner and clearasil pads, so I don't feel so bad!

L'Oreal Paris Infallible Le Rouge Red Lipstick: Perpetual Peach

I've been using L'Oreal Paris Infallible Le Rouge Red Lipstick in Perpetual Peach for a little over a month now, and it has definitely become my favourite lipstick. There are many things I love about it. For one thing, I like the actual size of the lipstick bullet - it's a lot smaller than most lipsticks, which makes it super easy to apply. I also like that it lasts a long time! It's claim is that it's supposed to last 10 hours - which it definitely doesn't, but who actually expects that from a lipstick? However, I can eat and drink and it does stay on pretty well. And if I don't do those things, it lasts even longer. It definitely has staying power. The third thing I love is the colour, which is a perfect pale peachy shade. These kinds of colours are definitely my favourite for my own lips.

Super pretty right?

The L'Oreal Paris website also claims that this lipstick is long lasting without feeling sticky, tacky, or dry. These are things I don't agree with. If I just wear the lipstick alone without a lip balm, it is definitely drying and feels quite tacky. So that's a downside. But on the whole, I think the pros outweigh the cons, and I definitely want to try some more of the colours they offer - there are so many available that I don't even know where to start!

DIY: Studded Shorts

I posted a while back about buying a bunch of pyramid studs off ebay so that I could ~bedazzle~ some things! I love the look of anything studded - studs just add so much in my opinion. So I got around to studding a really old pair of shorts recently, and here is the finished product.

These shorts are from Garage, a store I haven't shopped from in years, and I was definitely in high school the last time I wore them. But, they still fit, and I think the studs add a lot to them, and now I will definitely wear them again! I'm thinking of fraying the bottoms a bit too, just to add a little more to them.

What do you think? And what should I stud next? :)

Nail of the Day: Shades of Turquoise

I got the idea for this from Fleur de Force, except I did my nails in turquoise shades, opposed to pinks!

Right hand:

Left hand:

The lighter green-ish shade is Essie's "Turquoise & Caicos"; the darker more blue shade is OPI's "Fly" from the Nicki Minaj collection; and the glitter coat on my ring fingers is "Gone Gonzo!" from OPI's Muppet Collection.

I love the way this looks so much! I am so happy that it has become acceptable to wear bright fun colours on nails, and also to mix them up and wear multiple shades at once! I am definitely going to have to experiment with different colour combinations and patterns.

Outfit of the Day: B & W

This is an outfit I wore a few days ago for a Mother's Day family dinner. I named this post B & W because it's a black & white outfit and I am feeling completely un-creative at the moment, but in reality, so many outfits I wear are B & W, lol. Anyway, here is the outfit:

Top: Gifted, but I believe it's from Smart Set; Shorts & Ring: Forever 21

Excuse my derp face. Here is a nicer picture of my face, just because.

Mini Haul: BBW +

I was at the mall the other day and Bath & Body Works was advertising 2 for $20 3-wick candles. This is an amazing sale, since usually one of those candles costs $20 - you basically get one free! So of course I had to stop in & take a look. I only ended up buying 2 candles, but I had a tough time choosing just 2. All the spring/summer scents smelled soooo delicious!

The first one I sniffed was  Island Margarita, and it smelled so delicious that I immediately decided I had to have it. It is described as "an exotic blend of mandarin, blue iris and plum highlighted with sweet tangelo and sandalwood". So that was easy. Choosing a second one was the hard part, because I couldn't decide which one smelled the best, they all smelled so good! After narrowing it down to Pineapple Mango or Island Colada, I eventually chose Pineapple Mango. This one is described as "fresh from a tropical market, sweet ripened pineapple and luscious mango, with crisp lotus and a hint of warm vanilla". Yes, they are both very tropical scents, but I am in love with anything tropical smelling or tasting, plus they seem very fitting for this time of year.

PocketBacs were also on sale for $1 each, so of course I had to pick up a couple of those - even though they're the last thing I need! I have so many of them and will never use up any of them. Oh well, at least my hands will always be clean. :)

I got the Bee Good Honey Vanilla, & Carribean Escape, both which also smell delicious!

Lastly, I got a new purse, which I picked up from the Bay.

This is from the brand Tyler Rodan, which I had never heard of before. But it was only $55, which seems like a great deal. I was specifically looking for a mid-sized cross-body bag, and this little thing seemed absolutely perfect! I just had to get it. And I love the colour to death. :)

Lusting After: YSL ROUGE PUR COUTURE Vernis À Lèvres Glossy Stain

I am someone who loves lip products and lip colour. But I hate how hard it is to get a lipstick that lasts past your first drink or bite of something! My solution to this is lip stains. I love how you can slap on some lip stain, put a lipstick or lip gloss on top, and once that wears off, you still have a nice tint on your lips. So when I heard of Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Vernis À Lèvres Glossy Stain, I immediately wanted it. It sounds like the perfect lip product!

According to Sephora, it's a "revolutionary new lip product that combines the texture and shine of a gloss with the long-wear of a stain. What it does: Coat your lips with this lip color that offers a lightweight texture, which immediately melts onto lips. Glossy Stain delivers intense glossy color for an extremely long-lasting shine. "

I love the idea that this is a gloss rather than your regular lip stain! Lip stains are generally pretty dull in the texture department - no shine, no gloss, no sparkle. This product adds that little something.

The downside - the price. YSL is obviously a very high-end company and you can expect their products to be super pricey and these are no exception at about $32 each. Yikes. However, I still plan on getting my hands on at least one when I get a chance! The only issue will be choosing one shade - seems like it might be a nearly impossible task, since they offer 19 different ones!

Outfit of the Day: Leopard Love

This is the outfit I wore yesterday to do... not much. I visited with my parents & my nephew, and then went to see the 5-year Engagement with my cousin.

Mesh top & tank top: Forever 21; Leopard print leggings: New Look; Ring: Forever 21; Shoes: Zellers

I loooove these leggings so much! Apart from being fabulous leopard print, they are made of a really soft material and are so comfy to wear. They were pretty cheap too, around $15. I bought a pair of floral leggings from New Look at the same time, and those are definitely another favourite, I will have to include those in an outfit post soon.

Also, here is my face, in case anyone was wondering what my make-up for the day looked like:

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Be good to your mothers, as Mother's Day is this Sunday!

Nail of the Day: Styled Out

This is Maybelline New York's Color Show 'Denims' in "Styled Out". I was really iffy about buying anything from this collection because the bottle is so small compared to a normal bottle of nail polish, and also because they were SO CHEAP. Seriously, this only cost me something like $2.75. So I instantly thought that they just wouldn't be very good polishes. But I figured, for that price, I might as well try it out - at least if it were crap, I didn't spend a lot on it.

However, it wasn't crap! I was actually quite impressed with the quality, actually. It went on nice and smooth without any awkward streaking, which annoys me so much. 2 coats left a really nice finish. Not the best for wear-and-tear - it did chip pretty quickly. However, for the price I payed, I can't complain. The colour is nice but I think I might prefer it matte. I will have to try it with my matte topcoat next.

I think I will have to buy some more colours from Maybelline Color Show, & see how they compare. They did have some really nice brights!

What's in my bag?

I got this bag from my mom for Christmas, and have been carrying it around diligently ever since. It was definitely a downsize for me, as I'm used to HUGE purses, but it still holds a surprising amount of stuff. Everything that I need, at least. :)

Here is my bag. The 'brand' is d-fusion. I looove the print to death, and I also like the dangly chain details on the front. Also I have my Bath & Body Works hand sanitizer dangling from the front, of course!

And here are (most of) the contents of my purse! I excluded the random receipts, coupons, and other junk that found its way in there, but didn't need to be.

On the far left is my little medicine bag that I take with me everywhere. As you can see, there is Gravol in there, plus some Advil, Benedryl, Pepto Bismol, a pad & a tampon (tmi?), floss, and a chapstick. Because you never know! The Advil comes in handy more often than it should.

Then there is my matching wallet, a mini contact solution, a mini hand cream/santizer, my keys, oil absorbing sheets, gum, my iPod, Kleenex, a mini wind-up flashing (in case of emergencies/coming home in the dark/etc.), my EOS lipbalm, and a pen!

Also, I always carry my phone with me in my purse, but I forgot to include it in the picture. I have an Acer Liquid E, which is an Android phone.

Current Favourites - May 2012

Once upon a time I thought I'd be able to do a favourites post every month. That was about a year ago, and that month's favourites post was the only one I've made to date. Realistically, I don't change up the products I use often enough to make an interesting favourites post every month - there would be a lot of the same products month after month. So, I've decided that instead of monthly favourites, I will just make a current favourites post every time that I feel like I have enough new products to share.

Right now, all my favourites are make-up related.

First and foremost is Skindinavia's No More Shine Make-up setting spray. I'm going to mention right now that this is probably always going to be a favourite of mine. I've never been able to find any other product that so effectively controls the oil and shine on my face. All I do is spritz it a few times on my face both before and after applying the rest of my make-up, and I'm set for the day. It's slightly expensive at $32 for a 4 oz bottle, but completely worth it in my opinion.

My next favourite is a lip product - L'Oreal Paris Infallible Rouge Lipstick in Perpetual Peach. As much as I love the look of lipsticks, they usually annoy me so much, just because it's so hard to find one that doesn't come off with the first sip or bite of anything. For that reason, I generally am on the hunt for good lipstains, rather than lipsticks. However, I had heard good things about these lipsticks, and decided I needed to try it out. I must say that for a lipstick, it has incredible staying power. Although it is slightly drying and leaves the lips feeling slightly tacky, it does last for a very long time, which is basically what is important to me. Perpetual peach is exactly the type of lip shade I love - a pinky peach that is more neutral than loud. However, I really want to try some of the bolder colours. I got this lipstick for around $7 on sale.

I am loving bronzers to death, and am constantly looking for new ones to try. However, my favourite bronzer of the moment is a very cheap option, and it doesn't even have it's own name. It is the bronzer that is included in the e.l.f. Shopping Spree palette. I love this bronzer because it is not too light but also not too dark, and it is also quite matte, in comparison to many of the other bronzers I've tried that are shimmery. I just love the way my face looks after using this bronzer to define my face. This entire palette is only $3.

My favourite nail product of the moment is Sally Hansen's Diamond Strength Nail Hardener. I originally bought this in order to remedy my soft, peeling nails. It does an okay job of that, but it also turns out to be an amazing top coat. Using a coat as a base, and then as a top coat, my nails remain chip free for about 3 days, which is VERY good in my books (my job tends to turn out a lot of chipped manicures). It is also incredibly quick drying, which I love. This product is usually about $8 - $10.

My final current favourite is a mascara - Maybelline's the Colossal Volum Express Waterproof Mascara. This mascara comes with a big brush, which I love. It is a bit of a wetter formula, which I do not love, but it does dry quite quickly. It also definitely delivers the volume, and I love the way my lashes look after application. Also, it helps curl the lashes, even if you don't curl them beforehand, so that's nice. It costs about $9 in drugstores.

That is all for now! Let me know what your favourite products of the moment are, and maybe I will try them out! Also, if you have tried any of these products, do you love them as much as I do?

Make sure to check out my random favourites on ETC!

05/04/12 - Forever 21 Haul

Forever 21 has been my favourite store for so many years now. And I don't even have one nearby! Therefore, I do most of my shopping there online. Which can be very dangerous - I find that it's so much easier to find loads of things I like online than when actually shopping in a store. Anyway, here is the recent damage:

Rhinestone Happy Face Tank - Yellow/Black - $18.80
Rhinestone Stretchy Ring - $6.80
Chain & Stud Bracelet Set - Black/Gold - $5.80
