Nail of the Day: Coral Reef

This is what I've been wearing on my nails for the past few days. It's "Coral Reef" by Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme wear. When I bought the colour I loved it, but I love it even more after actually wearing it. The bottle doesn't portray how neon bright this colour actually is! Definitely a new favourite summer nail colour. I was impressed by the drying time and opacity of this polish too. Xtreme wear polishes aren't always very good but this one dried completely opaque with 2 coats and dried pretty fast for a cheaper nail polish. Love!

Style Inspo: Hardware (Studs & Spikes)

I have been a fan of all things studded since my days of being a wannabe-scene/punk/emo kid or whatever you'd like to call it! I'm talking about lots of pink plaid, chains, neon accessories, and black eye-liner. And studs.

It seems that hardware has made it's way into the fashion world with a bang lately. I've been seeing studs, and even edgier spikes, all over the place later. My inner scene-kid is screaming for joy (yes, she still exists - I am so nostalgic for my juvenile teenage style sometimes).

Anywho, reminiscing aside, here is some studded and spiked style inspo for you.

Product Review: Revlon Lip Butters

I realize that these products have been out since early spring and that they're basically old news now. But I still wanted to rave a little bit about the wonders that are Revlon Lip Butters. I have this product in 3 shades: Creme Brulee - a nudey-bronze colour; Pink Truffle - a darker wine-like shade; and Sweet Tart - a bright pink.

Creme Brulee, Pink Truffle, Sweet Tart

These lip butters give your lips a sheer wash of colour. They are more pigmented than, say, Maybelline Baby Lips, but definitely not as dramatic as wearing any regular lipstick. In my opinion, they give just the perfect amount of colour, especially for a day-time look.

Creme Brulee, Pink Truffle, Sweet Tart
Creme Brulee

Sweet Tart

Pink Truffle
I am definitely a fan of the nude lip, so I love Creme Brulee. It looks great by itself and worn over other colours. Something I like to do with this shade is to wear it over a darker lipstain to tone down the look. Sweet Tart is my second favourite, and most of the time I just like to wear it alone. Such a great shade that I feel compliments my skin tone really well! And as for Pink Truffle, it's a really nice shade of pink, but for me, it's a little bit much for during the day, even though it is quite sheer.

As these are lip 'butters', one would expect them to be moisturizing. They definitely aren't drying like many regular lipsticks. However, I wouldn't wear one of these alone with the intent to moisturize my lips. Although they do go on nice and smoothly, I would still go for a lip balm first for moisture if I needed it. A lip balm first is not a must though like it is for many lipsticks.

Anyway, my final word is that I really like these lip products, and I think I really need to find a more nudey-pink to finish my collection! There are so many colours offered, I don't think it'll be a problem.

Product Review: Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector B.B. Cream

A while ago I decided to buy the Garnier Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfector B.B. Cream just to try it out. The B.B. in B.B. creams stands for "Blemish Balm", and these types of products have existed in the Asian beauty market for quite some time. However, they are quite new in Western beauty. Authentic Asian B.B. Creams are formulated to conceal, whiten, moisturize, and soothe the skin. While most Western B.B. Creams cannot be considered 'authentic' B.B. Creams, the fact that they're an all-in-one foundation, moisturizer, and sunscreen made me feel like it would be worth a try.

The Garnier Skin Perfector B.B. Cream claims to hydrate, correct wrinkles and skin imperfections, protect, even, & brighten the skin tone. It contains mineral pigments and Vitamin C, and has an SPF 15 to protect the face from sunburn. The cream is offered in two skin tones - light/medium and medium/dark.

I bought the cream in light/medium, because medium/dark was a little bit dark for my skin, even with my tan. The first thing I noticed about this product was how little product was needed to cover a big area. The tiny swatch I tested in the store covered my whole hand and some of my arm. This means that this seemingly small tube will last a very long time, even if you use it every day.

When using this product, I use it in place of moisturizer and foundation. It does a good job of evening out skin tone and brightening the face, but I find that I still need to use a concealer to cover up under-eye circles and some of the worse red spots on my face. It also does a good job of moisturizing, but I find that it is too greasy for my skin. There is nothing on my bottle about containing oil or not, so I assume that it's not oil-free. I should have known better than to buy any face product that wasn't oil free, since my skin is very oily in the first place. Even when I use a setting-powder on top of this cream, I find that my face becomes oily very fast - something that doesn't happen with my regular foundations.

Bare skin

Wearing Garnier Skin Renew B.B. Cream

I like this idea of this product in the summer, in place of a heavy foundation. It evens out skin tone and brightens quite well, plus the added benefit of being a sunscreen. However, because it makes my skin greasy quite quickly, it is not ideal for my skin, personally. Next time I look for a B.B. Cream to buy, I will have to find one that is oil-free.

Have you tried any B.B. Creams yet?

Nail of the Day: Creamsicle

I love this manicure! I usually do not pair orange and pink together, but these pastel colours really seem to go together well. The polishes I used are Nubar "Orange Creme" and Quo by Orly "Cotton Candy". For the thumb I used a piece of tape to make a nice straight line. :) These colours remind me of orange and pink creamsicles, and although pastels are typically more suitable for spring, I think these colours are great for the summer! I am currently also wearing Cotton Candy on my toes and it looks great against my tanned skin.

The only annoying thing about these nail polishes is that both of them took 3+ coats to achieve full opacity. I guess that's what you get with pastel colours. Next time I'm going to try using a white coat underneath to see if it helps - I've heard that it works great with pastel coloured nail polishes.

Arm Candy

The one trend I'm absolutely loving right now is arm candy - lots and lots of bracelets of all kind and colour stacked together, someitmes with a watch. I just love the way it looks! I like colourful bracelets, I like studded bracelets, I like thick arm bands and thin bangles. It doesn't matter, I like it all.

Anyway, here's some arm candy inspiration for you all. It definitely inspires me.

Nail of the Day: Uli

I painted my nails the colour "Uli" by Zoya. This is a nude-y champagne colour with a really nice shimmer to it. This was the first Zoya polish that I've tried, and I am pretty impressed. The brush is the perfect size, and the colour goes on very nice and smoothly. 2 coats made for a nice opaque colour. This particular colour is not my favourite - I prefer nails that are brighter, more colourful. But for a nude-type colour, this is definitely a really nice polish. I'm going to try out some other Zoya polishes and see if colours I prefer more are just as nice in terms of application and whatnot. :)

Product Review: e.l.f. Studio Eyebrow Kit

I recently got a whole bunch of new stuff to try out from e.l.f. (You can check out my haul on that here). While I got a lot of stuff, and a lot of it is great stuff, I have to say that my absolute favourite product from this haul is the Studio Eyebrow Kit, which I got in the colour Ash.

I wasn't sure if I should go for the colour Light or Ash, but I definitely made the right decision. My eyebrows are a hard colour to match, and Ash is the perfect colour!

Anyway, the Studio Eyebrow Kit comes with a pigmented wax to shape and define your brows while filling them in, and a colour complementing setting powder to finish them up. It also comes with a mini double-ended brush, in which one side is thin and angled to apply the wax, while the other is a bit thicker and more fluffy in texture to apply the setting powder.

Pigmented Wax; Setting Powder; both combined
This kit is great for perfecting your eyebrows. And the even greater thing about it is that you can use it in a couple of different ways. The most obvious is to apply the wax and then the setting powder for a clean, finished look. For a more dramatic look, you can just use the wax and skip the powder. For a more relaxed and natural look, you can just use the powder to fill your brows in a bit. I've been doing this on my minimal make-up days (which are often lately, now that the weather's gotten hot) and I like how it neatens things up without being too obvious.

See how big of a difference this makes on my eyebrows? And it's super easy to use, so I recommend it if you're new at defining and filling in your eyebrows. And the greatest thing of all - it was only $3!

Do you define and fill your eyebrows with some kind of product? Do you prefer using a pencil, a wax, a powder, or some combination? Let me know what your favourite eyebrow products are, and maybe I'll check them out!

P.S. Only 5 followers away from doing my giveaway! Make sure you follow me on Google Friend Connect if you're not already!

Product Review: Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm

I am personally obsessed with lip balms. I hate having chapped lips and so I always carry around some sort of lip balm in my pocket/purse/backpack/whatever to avoid ever having dry lips. When I saw Maybelline New York's Baby Lips, I knew I had to try them out.

I have these lip balms in 30 - Peach Kiss, 05 - Quenched, and 25 - Pink Punch. The first one I bought was Peach Kiss, which was a huge disappointment, because as you can see from the picture above, it completely melted and deformed itself. However, I think it was a problem with the shipment, because as soon as I opened the package, the tube was already gooey like it had begun to melt a long time ago. I have not had this problem with the other two that I've purchased since.

Peach Kiss and Pink Punch provide a sheer wash of colour over the lips while deeply hydrating, while Quenched is a transparent gloss.  These lip balms also contain SPF 20 to protect the lips from the sun, a definite bonus in my opinion, since sunburned lips are extremely unpleasant.

Peach Kiss

Pink Punch
As you can see from the pictures, Pink Punch definitely is the most pigmented, but all of them make the lips super shiny. Peach Kiss is actually my favourite to use over other lipsticks, while Quenched is nice when I just want to quickly swipe some lip balm on my lips.

Apart from the way Peach Kiss melted, I love these products. They are long-lasting and they're definitely hydrating, and leave my lips feeling so nice and soft. They go for $7 at Shoppers Drug Mart, which is a bit steep in my opinion for what the product is. However, they're only about $3.50 at Wal-Mart, which is much more reasonable. I recommend this product if you're a fan of lip balms that leave a sheer coat of colour on your lips while hydrating them at the same time.

On another note, thank you everyone who has subscribed to me in the past couple of weeks! I'm only 8 followers away from my giveaway! I have a few products bought for it, and have a few more to buy. Once I get to 100 subs I will do an announcement showing what the giveaway will include, and how to win! Watch for it. :)

Nail of the Day: Merino Cool

Just wanted to do a quick nail of the day! I finally gave in and bought Essie "Merino Cool", even though it's basically just a darker shade of "Chinchilly", which I already own. But you know what? I'm glad I did. I love them both. Merino Cool is a classic dark greige shade with a lot of purple tones in it. Application isn't streaky and two coats are definitely enough. All-around great polish. :)

Product Review: Maybelline New York Unstoppable Eyeliner

When I ran out of my Revlon Colorstay Eyeliner, which has been my favourite basic black eyeliner to date, I decided I would try something new. I bought the Maybelline New York Unstoppable waterproof eyeliner in the colour Onyx to replace it.

This is a twist-up kohl eyeliner, which is usually my choice of eyeliner because application is easy and they are usually better quality than regular pencils. Not always, but usually. This eyeliner is a very nice dark shade of creamy black. It creates a very nice dramatic look on the eyes. Ignore my bare lashes, I didn't want to hide what the eyeliner really looked like by using a bunch of mascara - but the overall effect is definitely better when you do wear mascara.

As far as being waterproof, it lives up to its name. This is what the swatch looked like on my arm after scrubbing with soap and water. A little bit of water definitely wouldn't have changed the appearance of it at all.

I would definitely say you're safe from streaks and whatnot, even if you're caught in a rainstorm. However, just because something is water-proof doesn't mean it's smudge-proof. This eyeliner smudges VERY easily. This is nice when you want to smudge out your eyeliner to make a smokey eye, or anything else. It also makes application more difficult, though. I often end up with smudged out corners when I don't want them. It also doesn't stand the test of time against oily eyelids. And I have very oily eyelids. Even when I use a good eye primer, like Urban Decay's Eye Primer Potion, I often have a black line through my lid from my eyeliner half way through the day.

As far as eyeliners go, this one isn't the worst, but it isn't the best. I wouldn't repurchase, but I will probably use it until it runs out.

e.l.f. Haul

e.l.f. (eyes lips face) as a brand amazes me. For one thing, their make-up is always so cheap - they have loads of stuff for $1 each, and you rarely have to spend more than $3 on anything, unless you're buying a palette, which are also incredibly cheap. And further, they always have amazing deals on top of already amazing prices! It blows my mind, really.

Anyway, a while back, they had the 11-Piece Studio Brush Set on sale for only $3 (regularly $30) when you spent $20 on anything else. I really wanted the flat top powder brush anyway, because I've heard great things about how well it blends in liquid foundation. To buy the single brush by itself was $3, so I figured I might as well spend the same amount and get a whole set! Amazing, amazing deal.

So, anyway, here is everything I bought from e.l.f. this time around. So much stuff for so little money!

Studio 11-Piece Brush Collection, $3 ($30)
